Meeting Aesclepius Unit 7

The exercise for this week Meeting Aesclepius started good but didn’t end as well as I though it would. Just personally for me after instructed to visualize the white beam on the crown of the head and then heart to heart was calming but then my mind began to really wonder. As the ocean pauses seemed to get longer my mind focus would drift and I would then just begin to actually think what is this person doing in real life as I am thinking about them. My biggest barrier with mediation is focus even though I’m in a quiet place after a while I drift off. But continual practice I’m hopping will help.

I am indifferent about the saying “one cannot lead another where one has not gone himself”. I totally understand the saying and believe it to be somewhat true. I think it is definitely best to try to lead by example and experience but don’t always think one has to actually endure or accomplish what they preach. I think you can lead someone in the right direction if you have the right guidelines and outlook. I do think to really connect and believe what you tell someone is much more beneficial to all parties involved. You can tell someone how to prosper and flourish but one who hasn’t done so cannot give any experience or tips other than a script. I believe that saying to be true but then second-guess so I would consider myself to be in different. I think as a health professional ethically we do have an obligation to develop our own health psychologically, physically and spiritually. Because I believe in practicing what you preach and teach. This can be implemented in you life from the time you wake up until the time you go to sleep. Eating, working, family, free time all can be positives to improving your personal life.

  1. I'm intrigued by your indifference of the quote. I would add to that that it's important to go down a path before leading others through it because with nutrition for example, you will feel the amazing health benefits that have become "real" if you are actively living it, but if not, you may not be able to fake that alive passion that infiltrates the entire room everywhere you go! We can only pretend for so long. People pickup on those things. If we want to develop a strong client base, personal testimonies and referrals are essential. If we want them to believe in us then we need to set the living example. Plus, the more we implement healthy strategies in our own life, we learn new things about our body, and can shed light on blindspots that could save them wasted time by navigating through obstacles that they may have stumbled upon if they had to learn through trial and error the lesson we already learned ourselves. I find that for better focus, if i uni-task instead of multi-task and clear my mind of rambling, counterproductive thoughts that don't serve my current purpose, I can accomplish more in the moment and achieve the clear, still mind desired. I really enjoy the scenic images of the beach, mountainous areas and find they help me create that calm inner atmosphere.

    1. Hello AO,
It took me a really long time to learn how to keep me mind still during mediation but I finally mastered it. Sometimes if I have way to much on my mind my mind still wonders during mediation. For me to get my mind back to stillness I focus on my breathing and it usually gets me back on track. I enjoyed and reading your thoughts on the meaning one cannot lead another where one has not gone himself.I agree with you 100%
      Great post
